The course of the IPMA C assessment consists of the following components:
- The Experience document
- Executive summery report
- Self assessment
- Referent survey
The whole course (including C theory) has to be completed within 18 months after signing up for C theory. Registration for the interview closes 4 weeks in advance. The number of places available is limited, so we recommend registering well in advance. You can register once your Experience document has been approved. The Executive summery report and Self assessment documents must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the interview.
Three documents need to be submitted for the IPMA C assessment. The English templates and a detailed entry instruction are available on request (firstname.lastname@example.org)
In the Experience document, you give a description of your education, training and courses as well as work experience. Furthermore, you need to give the names of four referents that have previously been involved in your projects. In conclusion, you describe the projects in which you demonstrate that you meet the experience criteria for IPMA level C. Also, you are required to give an indication of the level of complexity for each of these projects. After submission we will assess if your document meets the eligibility criteria and if it has been filled out completely. After our approval, you will be able to choose a date for the assessment.
Executive summery report
In the Executive summery report you give background information about the organisation you work(-ed) for, and you also give a description about projects 1-3 mentioned in the Experience document. In case you mentioned just 1 or 2 projects in the Experience document you describe only these. The executive summery report as well as the self assessment documents need to be submitted at least 4 weeks before the interview.
In the Self assessment you score yourself on knowledge, skills and experience for each competency. With every competency, you need to give a real-life example of your experience.
In the referent survey you will be assessed on your performance by four persons by means of six open questions and one closed question. The references are the project executive, the manager and two project team members. All the assessors will be presented with the same questions in order to be able to make a proper comparison. The results of this inquiry will be used during the assessment.
The referent inquiry provides additional information to the assessors about how the performance of the applicant as a project manager is regarded by his/her inner circle. The feedback of the project executive and the manager will be disclosed to the applicant before the interview. Because of the dependent relation of the project team members and the applicant, their remarks are confidential and will thus merely be shown to the assessors.
In conclusion, there is a 90-minute interview with two assessors. Your skills will be tested on the basis of your submitted documents. You can select a date assessment through the portal after approval of your Experience document. About 4 weeks in advance you will receive an invitation to the starting time of your interview, the feedback from your references and the names of your assessors.
We kindly ask you to bring the following items to the interview:
- A document describing the project; project plan, project management plan, action plan, project initiation document (PID) or quotation.
- A document demonstrating your approach of the projects risks and uncertainties; a risk register, a risk and opportunities list, a risk log, an issue log, a risk database, etc.
- A document demonstrating how you handle changes; a change list, VtW-database, a change log, change proposal file, etc.
- Documentation demonstrating the process of decisionmaking with regard to your project; reports of the steering committee meeting, project management meeting, meetings with the project executive, managerial meetings etc.
- Documentation in which states how you concluded the project, project completion report, project assessment, discharge statement, lessons learned report , close out report, etc.
The assessors may request additional documentation, depending on the content of your Executive Summary. All information is kept confidential by IPMA Certification and assessors. All assessors have signed a confidentiality agreement. If secrecy is still a problem, please contact us.
The inclusion of documentation is not a requirement but will help you substantiate your project management experience. If you can not hand over documentation it does not lead to rejection. The lack of any kind of evidence can lead to a rejection. You can bring your documentation hardcopy or digital.
