IPMA level D
IPMA level D is meant for project managers who are just starting out, as well as more experienced project management employees wishing to obtain a more thorough theoretical foundation. During the IPMA level D course you will acquire theoretical knowledge of all the different aspects of project management. You will also learn to evaluate your own performance within the context of a specific project. The course consists of a Self assessment and a theoretical exam. Acquiring an IPMA level D certificate allows you to carry the title ‘Certified Project Management Associate’.
The IPMA D exam is available in English. Please select ‘English (en)’ at Voorkeurstaal when you sign up.
Before the start of the exam you are required to submit the Self assessment. The purpose of the Self assessment is to reflect upon one’s own performance within projects. It is meant to make the fledgling project manager – whose aim is to obtain an IPMA level D certification – conscious of his/her work. The Self assessment is required per the regulations of IPMA International, and has to be submitted at least two weeks before the exam takes place. You can fill in the Self Assessment on our portal after signing up.
The exam consists of two parts, with a total duration of three hours. The first part consists of 45 multiple choice questions and takes about 60 minutes. The second part contains an open questionnaire and takes about 120 minutes. The open questions are divided in mathematical questions, short open questions and a short scenario. The weighing factor of the multiple choice questions is 50%, and also 50% for the open questions. Sample papers are available after sign up.
During the exam you will be provided with calculation rules (.pdf) so you do not have to learn all of the formulas by heart.
In the Examination requirements v1.3 (695.3 kB) you will find the requirements for the exam.
If you would rather have a comprehensive manual which outlines the individual competencies, course requirements, exam goals and course curriculum in a clear, transparant way, please order the Examengids ICB4 (only available in Dutch). You can also order the handbook when you sign up for the course.
We do not offer any training in preparation of the exam. Training and examination take place separately to guarantee trustworthiness and independence. If you are interested in a training with the goal of obtaining an IPMA certificate, you will find a summary of project management training centers on the website of IPMA Nederland (in Dutch). Percussion rates per training institute and the appreciation of our candidates can be found at Pass rate and satisfaction.
There are no eligibility criteria for IPMA level D. However, some project management experience is desirable. In addition, you are required to provide a Self assessment. The purpose of the Self assessment is to reflect upon one’s own performance within projects. It is meant to make the fledgling project manager – whose aim is to obtain an IPMA level D certification – conscious of his/her work.
You are required to complete the course trajectory – including resits – within 18 months of signing up.
