The reality of modern project management

Projects are becoming increasingly large-scale, international, and multidisciplinary. Stakeholders expect measurable results, while time pressure and complexity continue to increase. This requires project managers who do more than just plan and manage. It requires professionals who can switch between strategy, collaboration, and execution.

In this context, project management is no longer a supporting function, but a strategic role within organizations. Anyone who wants to develop professionally in this field benefits from an independent, internationally recognized validation of their competencies.

What is an IPMA certificate?

The IPMA certificate is an internationally recognized certification for project professionals at different levels. It focuses on project, program, and portfolio management.

The certification is based on the IPMA ICB4 standard, which includes 29 competencies. These are divided into three domains: personal leadership, contextual (environmental) factors and technical project management skills

From level IPMA-C onwards, not only knowledge is tested, but also how it is applied in practice. You demonstrate that you have relevant work experience and are capable of managing projects professionally in different situations.

How the certification process works

The process consists, depending on the level, of a combination of a written exam, self-assessment, project reporting, and an assessment. From IPMA-C onwards, it is required that you can demonstrate relevant work experience through practical cases. You are evaluated by independent assessors who gain insight into your way of working, decision-making, and reflective ability.

The certification is carried out by IPMA Certificering. We operate independently from training providers to ensure that the assessment is objective and reliable.

What are the different levels

IPMA offers four certification levels:

  • IPMA-D: focused on basic knowledge for starting project professionals and team members
  • IPMA-C: for project managers with experience in less complex projects
  • IPMA-B: for managers of complex projects, programs, or portfolios
  • IPMA-A: for professionals with strategic responsibility across multiple initiatives

Internationally recognized and registered

After certification, you are included in the international IPMA register. This register shows who is certified, at what level, and until when the certificate is valid. It provides transparency for employers and clients and reinforces your status as a certified professional.

Ready for the next step

Project management requires professional competence. Anyone who wants to seriously develop in this field chooses a certification that tests both theory and practice. With an IPMA certificate, you demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, experience, and professional attitude needed to successfully deliver projects.
